25th March 2010
HESC's Earth Hour Awareness Campaign

Help's Environmental Science Club has decided to hold its Earth Hour Awareness Campaign two days early this year and so it falls on the said date :)
We the new members were divided into four respective groups led by Jack, Kim, Krishan and some other guy >.< Kim, Wei Gin, Xin Yi, Julia, Sucelia, Peh Leon, Keisha, Denise, Chia Sing, me and absent Sze Yun :) and my group was located at the main block, exit 6 specifically ;) It started of somewhat slow but it really picked up come 10 o clock onwards..

My booth was mainly focusing on the sale of cupcakes and the henna art :) the brownies were delish and were definitely the main attraction but i gotta say the henna art was a downright hit too ;) awesome ideas indeed

Awesome sceneries to wake up to

Meet my tiny soldiers that line my garden stepping stones :)

Well as you all know.. I have shifted far far away to Sg Buloh.. despite missing the craziness of it all being just 2 minutes from one U and 5 minutes from The Curve.. I'm now embracing the calmness and serenity of the "country" life.its so so peaceful that i can actually hear myself think.. I wake up daily to the natural alarm of the rooster followed by melodious chirping of the new baby birds outside my house.. in the evenings its downright windy and the crickets and froggies come out to play :) the sun set and sun rise just adds to the beauty of it all..
i'm loving my home now :)

Orchid Day anyone ?

Known for its strength and resilience, it is no wonder the orchid flower was chosen to signify women of all ages at risk of being afflicted with breast cancer.

Orchid Day, inaugurated here last Friday in conjunction with International Women’s Day, will be marked on the first Friday of every March from now on.

The brainchild of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) Malaysia, the celebration was inspired by the similarly-themed Daffodil Day created by the Cancer Council Australia.

BCWA president Ranjit Kaur said the orchid was the perfect symbol for women fighting breast cancer.

“The orchid is regarded as a rare and delicate beauty, exuding charm and strength. The endorsement of the orchid is symbolic to a breast cancer survivor as it takes resilience and strength to fight this disease,” she said.

“Simply being a woman has already put one at risk. Statistically, one in every 20 women are at risk of developing breast cancer. We aim to create a society that is responsive to breast health matters.”

Ranjit said this year’s celebration, which ends today, saw sales of fresh orchids and Pink Ribbon merchandise, ranging from RM5 Pink Ribbon handphone tags to a RM5,000 charity bouquet.

“The proceeds will enable us to continue to improve the quality of life for women diagnosed with breast cancer through individual patient hospital visits, practical and material support, group therapy sessions and breast cancer public education programmes.”
